Authorities are making a urgent plea following an incident where a car struck a woman walking with a stroller after veering onto the sidewalk. The event occurred today at approximately 4:30 pm along the R617 road connecting Blarney and Tower in Ireland. The woman in her thirties and the baby were promptly taken to a hospital in Cork. Fortunately, the woman’s injuries are not life-threatening, and the infant emerged unscathed, with a local fire brigade member describing the outcome as “miraculous.”
Individuals who witnessed the collision or were in the vicinity and may possess dashcam footage are encouraged to reach out to emergency services. A spokesperson from the Garda mentioned, “Gardaí and emergency services responded to the site after being informed of a car accident involving two pedestrians, a woman in her thirties, and a male infant, which occurred in Blarney, Co. Cork, today at around 4:30 pm.”
The pedestrians were transported to Cork University Hospital to receive treatment for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. No additional injuries were reported, and the area was cordoned off for examination. The road has since been reopened, and Gardaí are seeking witnesses, including those with potential dashcam or video recordings from the area.
Local councilor Damian Boylan expressed sympathy for the victim and lauded the efforts of Gardaí and emergency services. He remarked, “This was an extremely unfortunate incident, and we are fortunate that no fatalities occurred. It must have been a terrifying ordeal. My thoughts are with the woman and her loved ones. I trust that Gardaí are diligently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
