A 24-year-old US Marine named William Richard Roy, stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, has been apprehended for allegedly abducting a 12-year-old girl from a park and taking her to a hotel. The charges he faces include attempted sexual assault.
The incident unfolded when the girl’s grandmother reported her missing to the authorities. Roy flew to Chicago from North Carolina, met the girl at a park, and spent the night with her at a hotel. They then traveled to Durham, North Carolina, where Roy was arrested on Sunday.
According to the FBI, Roy is accused of enticing and transporting a minor across state lines for illicit sexual activities. The FBI became involved after receiving a report of the missing girl in Hammond, Indiana, where it is claimed that Roy took an Uber to meet the girl.
Subsequently, they journeyed to Chicago via Uber and stayed at a hotel before boarding a Greyhound bus to Durham, North Carolina, where the arrest occurred upon their arrival.
In a statement, the Indianapolis FBI disclosed that an active-duty US Marine, Roy, was arrested for allegedly traveling from North Carolina to Indiana to meet, kidnap, and sexually assault the 12-year-old girl from Hammond. Roy faces charges including enticement of a minor to travel for illicit sexual activity, transportation of a minor for illicit sexual activity, and interstate travel with intent to engage in a sexual act with a minor.
The investigation initiated on October 25, 2025, based on information received from the Hammond Police Department concerning the missing girl believed to be with Roy. Through collaborative efforts of the FBI, Hammond Police Department, and US Marshals Service, it was revealed that Roy flew to Chicago on October 24, 2025, and subsequently met the child in Hammond before traveling to Chicago and later to Durham, where the arrest took place.
The FBI Charlotte Field Office’s Greensboro and Raleigh Resident Agencies took Roy into custody upon the bus’s arrival in Durham, ensuring the safe recovery of the child.
The FBI emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing, acknowledging the swift coordination and assistance of the Hammond Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, and other law enforcement partners in resolving the case safely.
