Virgin Media has announced an upcoming upgrade for selected broadband customers who are still using the older Hub 3 and Hub 4 routers. These customers will soon benefit from a complimentary switch to the more advanced Hub 5, which features Wi-Fi 6 technology for faster and more reliable connections.
Eligible customers will be notified via email in the following weeks and months as the gradual rollout progresses throughout 2026. The Hub 5, equipped with Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas, promises improved coverage and consistency in home networks.
Virgin Media advises customers not to take any action until they receive direct communication regarding the upgrade. Users can also verify their eligibility by logging into their My Virgin Media account online.
Upgrading to the Hub 5 router can enhance the broadband experience by offering wider Wi-Fi coverage, better stability, and support for future updates. The new router is optimized for faster Gig1 speeds, enabling quicker downloads and streaming. For instance, Gig1 speeds can download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, which is more than 10 times faster than the UK average.
Wi-Fi 6 represents the latest wireless networking technology, providing faster speeds, improved efficiency, and better performance in busy environments. It can accommodate more devices simultaneously, offer enhanced performance across different frequency bands, and is energy-efficient, making it ideal for modern smart homes with high data demands. While Wi-Fi 7 technology is available, Wi-Fi 6 remains suitable for the average user’s needs.
