A man celebrating his 111th birthday has shared the key to his longevity – wine and sweets. Zhan Changcheng, a resident of Wanyao Village in China, born on March 17, 1914, credits his active lifestyle to daily walks, card games, and a diet rich in sugary treats. Despite living through numerous historical events, including various wars and political eras, Zhan remains in good health.
Living with four generations of his family, Zhan’s sons take turns caring for him. Known for his meticulous habits, he maintains a strict oral hygiene routine, waking up early each day for breakfast preparation. Zhan’s preference for sweetened foods is well-known among his family, who consume a significant amount of sugar monthly to cater to his taste.
Despite his indulgence in sweets, Zhan’s health remains robust, with regular check-ups showing positive results. His dedication to bamboo weaving for over five decades earned him a reputation in the community, where he still meets with weaving enthusiasts regularly. Wine also plays a significant role in his daily routine, as he enjoys a glass frequently.
Formerly a heavy smoker, Zhan quit smoking several years ago under family pressure but still carries a pack to offer others. Leading a simple and content life, Zhan’s story is one among many in Wanyao Village, which boasts 22 residents over 90 years old, including two centenarians. Regarded as the second oldest person in China, Zhan’s remarkable journey stands as a testament to a modest lifestyle and the joy found in simple pleasures.
