Tragedy struck in Brooklyn as a firefighter from New York City lost his life while battling a significant fire on Saturday night.
Patrick Brady, aged 42, suffered a cardiac arrest on the rooftop of a burning structure located at 9407 Kings Highway in East Flatbush. Brady, an 11-year veteran of the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY), responded swiftly to the scene following reports from residents who were awakened by flames on the sixth floor.
Immediate medical assistance was provided by fellow firefighters and emergency personnel to Brady, who was then transported to Brookdale University Hospital where he was pronounced deceased, according to the FDNY. Additionally, a second firefighter and two civilians sustained minor injuries, as per officials.
Mayor Eric Adams expressed, “It takes courage to put on that uniform, to risk your life for others and answer the call. There’s a reason we call them New York’s bravest, and Patrick Brady exemplified that valor.”
Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker stated, “The entire FDNY is deeply saddened by the loss of Firefighter Patrick Brady. He was a committed public servant, and the spirit of firefighting ran in his veins. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues as we stand together in mourning this significant loss.”
During a press briefing, FDNY First Deputy Commissioner Mark Guerra disclosed that Brady is the second FDNY member to have died in the line of duty within the past fortnight. He is survived by his wife, Kara, and his two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, both of whom are also FDNY firefighters.
