EE has unveiled an enhanced version of its Scam Guard service to combat the escalating threat of scams in the UK. The upgrade, available to all EE pay-monthly mobile customers for £2 per month, aims to provide improved protection against cyber attacks targeting phones.
Despite the additional cost, EE asserts that the upgraded Scam Guard offers significantly enhanced security for subscribers. Since its initial launch in 2024, the service has successfully thwarted 169 million scam and spam attempts. With the new version, EE anticipates doubling the prevention of scams over the next year.
The core of the upgraded Scam Guard is AI Triple-Lock Protection, featuring three advanced safety components powered by Norton’s Genie AI engine. These components include Safe Email, which offers round-the-clock proactive scam filtering for email accounts. Additionally, Safe SMS utilizes advanced AI technology to detect intricate scams in text messages, delivering real-time protection to users. Safe Web is another feature that employs AI to safeguard customers while they shop or browse online, identifying and blocking malicious websites before they can cause harm.
The enhanced Scam Guard service also introduces Scam Assistant, enabling customers to upload screenshots of suspicious messages, emails, or websites to receive instant feedback on their safety. Moreover, Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring track potential threats across a customer’s online presence and promptly alert them to any suspicious activities.
Malcolm Cubitt, Director of Product, Mobile at EE, emphasized the importance of combating fraud in the UK, where scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated and challenging to detect. He highlighted EE’s commitment to innovating and providing robust security measures to safeguard customers against evolving cyber threats. Through strategic alliances, network-level controls, and a team of security experts, EE aims to offer customers unparalleled cyber security protection with the enhanced Scam Guard service.
