Ronnie O’Sullivan is set to make a comeback at the upcoming German Masters in January after a prolonged absence of nine years from the tournament. Known as “The Rocket,” O’Sullivan, a seven-time world champion, has not competed in the main stages of the event since 2017 but is now confirmed to participate in pursuit of the £550,000 prize.
Having refrained from entering or withdrawing from the tournament since his last appearance in Berlin nine years ago, O’Sullivan’s return marks a significant moment for snooker fans. Despite a recent setback in the qualifying round where he lost 5-0 to Hossein Vafaei, O’Sullivan is determined to make his mark in this year’s German Masters.
The seasoned 50-year-old player, seeded among the top 16, will kick off his campaign against Haris Tahir, Zhao Hanyang, or Long Zehuang. Notably, Ding Junhui is the only absentee among the top seeds, as indicated by the official draw on the German Masters’ website.
Scheduled to commence on January 26 at the Tempodrom in Berlin, the tournament will witness defending champion Kyren Wilson aiming to retain his title after a thrilling victory over Barry Hawkins last year. Notable contenders such as Judd Trump, Mark Selby, and Neil Robertson are also vying for success in this prestigious event.
O’Sullivan, currently ranked eighth globally, has faced challenges in the current season, having relocated to Dubai following his marriage to actress Laila Rouass. Despite recent withdrawals from events due to health concerns, O’Sullivan remains focused on his comeback and appreciates the unwavering support of his fans.
