The governments of Ogun and Lagos States issued a joint statement concerning the recent car accident involving Anthony Joshua in Nigeria. The renowned British-Nigerian two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion sustained minor injuries in the crash, which tragically resulted in the loss of two lives.
According to the official statement, the incident occurred on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway when the vehicle carrying Joshua and three others collided with a stationary truck. The governments expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased and offered prayers for their strength during this difficult time.
Following the accident, Joshua and another passenger were promptly taken to a specialized medical facility in Lagos where medical professionals confirmed their stable condition without the need for emergency interventions. A dedicated medical team is closely monitoring their progress while Joshua remains conscious and in contact with his family.
Both Ogun and Lagos States are actively overseeing the situation to ensure the best medical care for those affected. Simultaneously, investigations into the accident’s circumstances have commenced to determine the cause.
The statement also emphasized the importance of privacy for Joshua and his family amid the ongoing situation. It was jointly signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media to the Governor of Ogun State, and Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information and Strategy for Lagos State.
Preliminary reports from the Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria indicated that the crash involved a black Lexus Jeep driven by Joshua and a stationary red commercial Sinotruck. Out of the five adult males involved, two lost their lives, one sustained injuries, and two escaped unharmed. The injured victim received medical attention, and the deceased were taken to Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu, as investigations continue regarding the accident’s cause.
