The boxing community is in mourning following the tragic passing of 25-year-old Paul McCullagh Junior. Hailing from Belfast, McCullagh had a successful amateur career, securing the Ulster Elite heavyweight title in 2019 and representing Ireland in international competition against the Netherlands.

With two professional victories to his name, McCullagh, also known as ‘The Irish Drago’, fought for both the St. John Bosco club in West Belfast and his family’s McCullagh’s ABC in Dunmurry.

He was the grandson of the renowned Belfast boxing coach, Paul McCullagh, who had a significant impact on the sport before his passing in 2018. McCullagh’s father, Paul, a former amateur champion and professional referee, comes from a boxing lineage deeply rooted in the sport.

The Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA) expressed profound sadness over McCullagh’s untimely death, highlighting his achievements and contributions to the boxing community. Former teammates and trainers, including Aidan Walsh and Jonathan O’Brien, shared heartfelt tributes, remembering McCullagh’s impact on their lives.

The Belfast boxing fraternity also joined in honoring McCullagh’s memory, acknowledging his talent and spirit. The passing of Paul McCullagh Junior has left a void in the boxing world, as his legacy and passion for the sport continue to resonate among those who knew him.
