Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps has released fresh photos from the site of a tragic accident involving British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua. The agency has also shared a comprehensive account of the incident that claimed the lives of two individuals.
Joshua was hospitalized after being extricated from the wreckage of the SUV he was traveling in with a driver and other passengers on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Nigeria. It was reported that a blown tire caused the vehicle to veer off course and collide with a parked lorry.
Authorities from the Ogun State police have initiated an investigation into the matter, and the FRSC has issued an update as well.
A recent post by the organization on X’s platform on December 29, 2025, showcased previously unseen images of the damaged SUV and the truck it crashed into. The pictures depicted officials at the scene alongside witnesses, with the rear of the truck cordoned off.
The FRSC’s statement confirmed the fatal crash involving a Lexus Jeep carrying Anthony Joshua and a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway near Sagamu. The collision resulted in two fatalities, one injury, and Joshua sustaining minor injuries.
The injured party received medical attention, and the deceased were taken to a local morgue. The police have been notified for further investigation. The statement indicated that the vehicle carrying Joshua was exceeding the speed limit.
According to preliminary findings, the crash was caused by speeding and improper overtaking, which are major contributors to fatal accidents on Nigerian roads. The FRSC extended condolences to the victims’ families and wished Joshua a speedy recovery, emphasizing the importance of obeying traffic rules to prevent accidents.
The public was reminded to avoid reckless driving practices, especially during holiday travel, and prioritize safety on high-speed roads like the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The FRSC emphasized its commitment to ensuring road safety, rapid emergency responses, and ongoing public education to reduce road accidents and fatalities.
Preliminary reports from the Ogun State government identified the deceased as two male foreigners. Joshua has not made any public statements since the incident, and his hospital location has not been disclosed by officials.
