A young pregnant woman from the UK, Bella May Culley, has been relocated to a specialized facility within a prison in Georgia, where she now enjoys improved living conditions, including access to proper amenities like showers and toilets. Culley, who was detained at Tbilisi Airport in May for allegedly attempting to smuggle large quantities of drugs into the country, is said to be in her eighth month of pregnancy.
Her mother, Lyanne Kennedy, revealed that Culley was previously held in harsh conditions at Rustavi Prison Number Five, with limited access to basic facilities. However, she has since been transferred to a prison with a mother and baby unit, where she can now spend two hours daily outdoors, use a communal kitchen, and have personal shower facilities.
Kennedy mentioned that Culley’s situation has improved significantly in the new facility, where she is able to cook for herself and engage in activities like making food for others. The family is actively working to bring Culley back home and is hopeful for a positive outcome in the legal proceedings.
Despite facing serious charges and a plea deal, there are ongoing efforts to reduce Culley’s sentence through legal negotiations. Her legal team is aiming to secure a pardon from the president of Georgia, and Culley is expected to receive a two-year sentence, with her formal sentencing scheduled for the following day. Discussions in court have indicated progress in reaching an agreement, and a final verdict is anticipated soon.
