“Former Jockey Luke Tarrant Arrested for Armed Robbery”

Must read

A former prominent jockey, Luke Tarrant, has been detained on remand due to three charges of armed robbery. Tarrant, who is currently serving a 12-month racing disqualification for a prior offense, was denied bail during his recent court appearance in Caloundra, Queensland, Australia.

The charges against Tarrant include three counts of armed robbery, illegal entry with intent to commit a serious offense, and possession of dangerous drugs. Robbery carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison, which can escalate to life imprisonment in cases involving armed robbery, accomplices, or violence.

Tarrant’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 19. The 31-year-old jockey, with a record of 502 victories including three Group races, achieved a significant win in 2015 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

In 2020, Tarrant faced a six-month ban after confessing to assaulting another jockey in the weighing room. Additionally, in October of the previous year, he was disqualified for one year for failing to cooperate with a stewards’ inquiry related to alleged falsification of health assessment forms.

The matter was referred to Queensland’s Racing Integrity Commission, where Tarrant was instructed to enter a plea. However, despite several invitations over four weeks, no plea or submissions were provided by Tarrant. The Commission panel emphasized the importance of cooperation in maintaining integrity within the racing industry.

The stewards deemed a 12-month disqualification appropriate, effective from October 8, 2025, to October 8, 2026, citing the need to uphold the integrity of the sport.
