“Renowned Jockey Survives Horse Crush, Eyes Comeback”

Must read

A renowned jockey narrowly escaped a fatal accident when her pelvis was crushed by the horse she was riding. Sonja Logan, the victim, had previously endured a brutal attack by a group of assailants attempting to steal her car in 2023. This incident left her with a broken nose, cut lip, and fractured teeth just three weeks before her wedding. Despite the men fleeing the scene upon detection, they were never apprehended. Recalling the excruciating pain she experienced with a half-ton racehorse pinning her down, Logan described it as the most intense agony she had ever felt.

While riding Jumping Power Two, a horse trained by her husband Tommy, Logan faced a terrifying moment when the six-year-old gelding became startled by something, causing it to rear up and fall on her, resulting in the crushing of her pelvis. Subsequently, Logan had to be transported to Darwin Royal Hospital and later to Adelaide Royal Hospital for specialized treatment, as there were no pelvic surgeons available in Darwin. She underwent surgery to insert screws and a plate to stabilize her fractured hip.

Reflecting on the incident, Logan acknowledged her luck in surviving the ordeal, as the impact could have been fatal if the horse had landed on her ribs instead of her pelvis. Currently recovering at home with the aid of a walking frame, she anticipates a six to eight-month healing period before potentially returning to riding, emphasizing that the extent of her rehabilitation will determine her comeback.

Following the traumatic carjacking incident, Logan, known for her success in horse racing with 547 career wins, resumed her riding career and achieved notable victories. However, behind the scenes, she struggled with depression and alcohol consumption. To overcome her mental health challenges, she turned to competitive bodybuilding, which helped her regain stability and find a supportive network to navigate through her recent setback.

Regarding her recovery journey, Logan expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from her loved ones, particularly her husband Tommy, who has been instrumental in assisting her daily needs. She emphasized the distinction between the accidental injury caused by the horse and the deliberate assault she previously endured, highlighting her appreciation for the people who stood by her during this challenging period.
