A 63-year-old British man tragically passed away after experiencing a heart attack at the summit of Ella Rock in southern Sri Lanka while on a hike to celebrate his daughter’s 34th birthday. The challenging climb, which they undertook on October 25, ended in devastation as the father collapsed upon reaching the peak and was rushed to Bandarawela Hospital but could not be revived.
An autopsy confirmed that the man had suffered a heart attack. The pair had arrived in Sri Lanka on October 16 and had previously explored Weligama before embarking on their fateful journey to Ella Rock. The Foreign Office extended support to the grieving family, stating, “We are supporting the family of a man who has died in Sri Lanka.”
This heart-wrenching incident occurs just months after the tragic death of a British fashion and travel influencer, Ebony McIntosh, who fell seriously ill during her trip to Sri Lanka. Ebony, 24, from Derby, was admitted to the hospital along with other tourists staying at her hostel, all experiencing symptoms like vomiting, nausea, and breathing difficulties.
Despite efforts, Ebony succumbed to her illness shortly after being admitted. In a touching tribute on social media, her younger sister India expressed her deep sorrow and the desire for Ebony’s return. She mourned, “To my Ebony, my beautiful sister, thank you for being my older sister, one better than I could’ve ever asked for.”
India’s heartbreak was palpable as she continued, “My heart aches I need you here, we all need you. Lets get you home ebony.”
