The Winter Olympics village in Milano Cortina is facing a shortage of condoms despite distributing 10,000 free condoms to athletes. The living quarters for Olympians have a reputation for steamy encounters, with numerous stories of romantic escapades surfacing over the years.
Authorities are trying to address potential issues by providing free contraceptives. However, after distributing 200,000 condoms at the Paris Summer Games in 2024, only 10,000 were given out at the current event in Italy. The discrepancy is notable considering there were approximately 10,500 athletes in Paris compared to just under 3,000 in Milano Cortina.
According to an athlete who preferred to remain anonymous, the condom supplies ran out within three days in Milano Cortina. They expressed uncertainty about when more would be available. Additionally, there are reports of ‘anti-sex’ beds being used as a measure to discourage intimate activities away from public view, but the effectiveness of this approach is questionable.
This is not the first instance of condoms running out at the Olympics. At the Sydney 2000 Games, organizers had to order an extra 20,000 condoms after exhausting the initial allocation of 70,000.
Preventing the spread of sexually transmitted infections is crucial for the success of the Games. Athletes arriving in Milan were reminded of the importance of health and taking necessary precautions.
Former Olympic champions have shed light on the lively atmosphere in the village. One anonymous gold medalist highlighted the openness about romantic relationships within the Olympic community, emphasizing that intimacy is a natural part of the experience.
