Five individuals have been taken into custody in relation to the tragic death of Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez, the grandson of renowned actor Robert De Niro. The incident occurred two years ago at the family’s residence in New York City.

Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez, aged 19 at the time, was discovered deceased in the Cipriani Club Residence on Wall Street on July 2, 2023. The medical examiner’s office in New York City determined that his passing resulted from an accidental drug overdose. Following this ruling, five suspects were apprehended on drug-related charges connected to the fatality.

These individuals are accused of participating in a criminal enterprise that distributed counterfeit prescription opioids containing fentanyl, among other substances, to young adults and teenagers in the city. Reports suggest that the defendants supplied laced pills to three 19-year-olds, resulting in fatalities, including De Niro-Rodriguez and Akira Stein, daughter of musician Chris Stein.

Furthermore, a woman, Sofia Haley Marks, was previously arrested in connection with De Niro-Rodriguez’s demise, bringing the total number of arrests to six. Marks allegedly sold the victim the tainted drugs a day before his passing and was subsequently charged with federal drug distribution.

Notably, Drena De Niro, the mother of the deceased, asserted that the pills sold to her son contained fentanyl, implicating the seller. She shared her sentiments on Instagram following the tragic incident.

According to sources, De Niro-Rodriguez was found unconscious in a chair at his family’s apartment by a friend who checked on him after being out of contact for several days. The details of the situation shed light on the prevalence and dangers of illicit drug distribution, underscoring the need for awareness and intervention in combating substance abuse issues.
