A woman from the UK who traveled to the United States with the alleged intention of being murdered by a man she met on a fetish website had previously attempted to arrange her own killing. Sonia Exelby, 32, from Portsmouth, was discovered in a shallow grave in Marion County, Florida. The man she met online, Dwain Hall, was arrested and charged with kidnapping and first-degree murder after their stay at an Airbnb took a gruesome turn. Hall, a 53-year-old father, is accused of sexually abusing and torturing Sonia before fatally stabbing her. The events leading up to her death unfolded after Sonia and Hall met on a fetish website two years prior. Reports indicate that Sonia, who was struggling with mental health issues, had expressed a desire to be abused, a request Hall allegedly fulfilled. This was not the first time Sonia had sought to be killed, as a previous attempt in 2024 was thwarted, leading to mental health treatment in the UK. Sonia’s journey to Florida in October 2025 ended tragically, with her body being found in a wooded area with fatal stab wounds. Detectives uncovered incriminating evidence, including a shovel with Sonia’s DNA in Hall’s garage, as well as a knife with traces of her blood and DNA. Hall was apprehended after trying to use Sonia’s credit cards and has been charged with serious offenses. The judge denied him bond due to the substantial evidence against him, emphasizing the severity of the case.
