A British tourist has tragically passed away after a cycling accident in Spain. The 57-year-old man, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly lost consciousness while riding his bike on the N-340 road near Almuñecar, Granada. Almuñecar, a popular tourist destination on the Costa Tropical, is known for its beaches and natural attractions.

The incident occurred around 12:30 pm on Thursday, November 6. Despite emergency services rushing to the scene, the cyclist was pronounced dead on-site after unsuccessful resuscitation attempts by local authorities. The man was staying at a hotel in Nerja, approximately 12 miles away from the accident site in Malaga province.

Witnesses informed responders that the cyclist fell from his bike, revealing that the incident likely stemmed from a pre-existing health issue related to physical exertion. The Civil Guard awaits autopsy results to determine the cause of death, with no indications of foul play at this stage.

The man was cycling with friends along the southern Spanish coastline when the tragedy occurred. Resuscitation efforts lasted around 30 minutes, with law enforcement employing a defibrillator in their rescue attempts. Almuñecar’s Security Councillor, Mari Carmen Martin Orce, expressed deep regret over the incident and extended condolences to the deceased’s loved ones.

The accident site is situated between Mateano Restaurant and Hotel California.
