A prominent indie rock band’s founding members have ended their 22-year relationship. The announcement was made through a joint statement on the band’s official social media platform.
Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Regine Chassagne, who tied the knot in 2003, disclosed their decision to separate via a surprising social media post. The message conveyed, “After a lengthy and affectionate marriage, Win & Regine have chosen to part ways. They continue to cherish, respect, and assist each other in co-parenting their child.” The statement also emphasized that their connection as creative partners will persist alongside the band’s continuity. “The band expresses their affection and eagerly anticipate connecting with fans during upcoming tours,” the statement conveyed.
Win, aged 45, faced allegations of misconduct from four individuals three years ago. The accusations, brought forth by three women and one gender fluid individual, included sending unsolicited explicit messages, coercive behavior, emotional mistreatment, and physical assault.
While acknowledging engaging in relationships with the accusers, Win maintained that they were consensual. In a statement in 2022, Win expressed remorse, stating, “Although these interactions were consensual, I deeply regret any harm caused by my actions. As I move forward, I am committed to learning from my mistakes and striving to be a better individual, someone my son can admire. […]”
Regine, who shares a son with Win born in 2013, stood by her husband during the allegations. She affirmed, “I know Win’s true intentions, and I am confident that he has never and would never engage with a woman without her consent, a fact I am certain of.”
Arcade Fire rose to prominence in the 2000s and received ten Grammy Award nominations. They have graced major stages globally, including Glastonbury, Coachella, and Lollapalooza. The band made a comeback this year with their latest album, Pink Elephant, following Will Butler’s departure from the group in 2022.
Will, Win’s brother and former band member, announced his exit on social media, citing personal growth and changes within the band as reasons for leaving. He expressed gratitude to fans, crew members, management, and fellow artists for their support over the years, emphasizing that Arcade Fire remains close to his heart.
