Pankiw shared a screenshot of a text conversation on her Instagram account where she unequivocally rejected the opportunity to work on the HBO show.
In her Instagram post, Pankiw emphasized her firm stance against funding transphobia by turning down the directing job. She clarified that the offer was for a directing role, not acting. The 39-year-old director is known for her work on projects such as “Black Mirror,” “Feel Good,” and the film “I Used to be Funny.”
The text exchange, dated April 21, did not reveal the identity of the person Pankiw was communicating with. The new “Harry Potter” series, titled “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max on December 25, 2026, and will be available for streaming on Crave in Canada. The series is based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved fantasy book series.
