Professional dancer Amy Dowden from Strictly Come Dancing has provided an update on her health status following recent concerns about cancer. During an appearance on The Dr Hilary Show podcast, Amy, aged 35, expressed her relief at being in remission but revealed that doctors had discovered abnormalities in her other breast.
Having bravely battled breast cancer since her diagnosis at 32 in May 2023, Amy has been candid about her journey. Her initial diagnosis forced her to withdraw from the 2023 season of Strictly Come Dancing and undergo chemotherapy along with a mastectomy.
Despite facing challenges, Amy has been a source of inspiration for many individuals in her fight against breast cancer. Speaking to Dr Hilary, she shared, “Thankfully, there is no sign of disease. However, I have encountered worrisome findings in my other breast, which has been unsettling.”
Discussing the impact of the illness, Amy also acknowledged the pressure she felt to return to dancing. In a previous interview on the Breast Cancer Uncovered podcast, she highlighted her determination to resume her normal activities promptly, considering her battle with Crohn’s disease as well.
Amy reflected on the sudden emptiness of her schedule due to her health condition and the realization that her recovery process would be lengthier than expected. She remarked, “Seeing my calendar cleared, canceling performances and work commitments, and not knowing when I could resume dancing was extremely challenging.”
Despite the setbacks, Amy managed to return to compete in the current season of Strictly Come Dancing. However, she and her celebrity partner, Thomas Skinner, were eliminated in the second week of the competition.
