Ben Stokes found himself on the receiving end of a nasty injury, breaking what could be considered a cardinal rule for a cricket coach. The England cricket sensation shared a photo on Instagram revealing a black eye, bruised face, scratches, and a bandaged nose, humorously remarking, “You should see the state of the cricket ball.”
The cause of Stokes’ injuries came to light as he was coaching young players at an indoor facility in Durham, where a powerful shot from batsman Robbie Bowman struck him in the face unexpectedly. Following the incident, Stokes was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment, reaching out to Bowman later to ease any concerns.
Durham coach Ryan Campbell disclosed the mishap, emphasizing that Stokes unintentionally violated a key coaching rule by turning his back on the batter during practice. Despite the accident, Stokes displayed his character by personally reassuring Bowman from the hospital, shouldering the blame for the unfortunate event.
Stokes, amidst recovering from a groin injury sustained during the Ashes Test, is gearing up for a potential return to action with Durham before England’s upcoming Test against Australia in June. The all-rounder, contracted with England until the 2027 Ashes series, envisions a future in coaching post-retirement, having already amassed 120 Test appearances for his country.
