Disney+ and Hulu have given the green light for a reboot of the show, confirming that a new series is in the works. According to Disney+, Glee played a significant role in shaping modern fandom through its hit covers, viral performances, and discovery of new talents.
The official Glee Instagram account recently announced the return of the show with a post captioned “Currently gleeking out!” The original series, which aired from 2009 to 2015 on Fox, followed a group of students in the William McKinley High School show choir as they navigated various challenges, including relationships, identity, and even a storyline involving a rival show choir throwing a slushie with rock salt.
While the reunion won’t be complete due to the loss of three original cast members, several actors from the original series have hinted at their involvement in the reboot. Lea Michele, known for her role as Rachel Berry, is reportedly set to return, with sources confirming her participation.
Other original cast members like Heather Morris, Chord Overstreet, Kevin McHale, and Jenna Ushkowitz have also teased their potential involvement in the reboot through social media posts. Series creator Ryan Murphy has expressed excitement about bringing the original cast together again, mentioning that he has already penned a script for the reboot.
Although fan favorites Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, and Darren Criss have not confirmed their participation yet, the internet is abuzz with speculation and excitement over the show’s return. The original Glee series was praised for its music, which remains popular on platforms like Spotify, and its message of inclusivity and acceptance.
Despite the show’s success, it faced criticism for its fluctuating tone and handling of serious issues. Tragedy and scandal also marred the show, with the untimely deaths of cast members Cory Monteith, Mark Salling, and Naya Rivera. The reboot announcement has sparked mixed reactions online, with some fans expressing enthusiasm while others remain skeptical about whether the revival can capture the magic of the original series.
