If you’ve been facing issues with your Gmail app lately, experiencing screen flickering and text disappearing on devices like Samsung models, you’re not alone. Users have reported seeing blank white boxes instead of their messages, sparking frustration among Gmail enthusiasts. One user, Jeremiah, vented on social media, expressing discontent with the persistent flickering issue on folding phones like the Samsung Fold.
Similar grievances have surfaced on Google’s support forums, with users struggling to read emails due to continuous screen flickering despite trying various troubleshooting methods. Google product expert Kimiya Kitani identified the problem as related to Android System WebView, a crucial Android component enabling apps to display web content within the app interface.
Kitani highlighted that certain devices, particularly Samsung tablets, are encountering intermittent issues with Android System WebView, prompting Google to address the issue promptly. While the exact number of affected users remains uncertain, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold series and specific Galaxy tablets are among the most impacted devices.
As a temporary solution, Kitani recommends rotating the device to mitigate the flickering problem. By opening emails in portrait mode, rotating the device to landscape mode until the screen stabilizes, and then returning it to portrait mode, users may be able to alleviate the flickering temporarily.
In the interim, this workaround serves as a quick fix while awaiting a permanent solution from Google.
