Prince Albert authorities announced the discovery of human remains on Thursday in the search for a missing teenager who disappeared in June. The search involving the city’s public works, fire departments, and Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue led to the finding of the body near the 300 block of 40th Street East. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to confirm the identity of the individual and determine the cause of death.
The mother of the missing teenager, Peyton Flett, named Danica Moore, was informed by the police that they suspect the body belongs to her daughter. She chose not to provide further comments. The Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, along with the police major crimes and forensic identification units, are collaborating on the investigation into the suspicious death.
A news conference held on Wednesday included representatives from the police, Prince Albert Grand Council, Shoal Lake Cree Nation, and Flett’s parents, appealing to the public for any information regarding her whereabouts. The last known sighting of Flett was on June 16 or 17 near Northern Lights Casino on Marquis Road and Central Avenue.
Authorities are continuing their investigation in the wooded area near 40th Street where the body was discovered. Traffic restrictions are in place on the street, and the public is advised to avoid the area. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
