Beloved British actress Prunella Scales, known for her iconic role as Sybil Fawlty in the classic sitcom Fawlty Towers, has passed away at the age of 93, as confirmed by her family. Prunella and her husband, fellow actor Timothy West, who passed away a few months earlier, shared a special bond that lasted over six decades.
The couple met on the set of a period drama in 1963 and got married at Chelsea Registry Office. Together, they raised two sons and faced both joyful and sorrowful moments throughout their long marriage. Timothy remained devoted to Prunella until his passing in November 2024, supporting her through the challenges of her Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
In a poignant memoir published in 2023, Timothy revealed Prunella’s long-held regret of not having a church wedding. To fulfill this wish, they had a blessing ceremony in a local church in West Sussex, officiated by a dear friend. The intimate ceremony was attended by close family members, including their children and Timothy’s daughter from a previous marriage.
In a heartfelt interview, the couple reflected on their enduring love, especially in the face of Prunella’s illness. Timothy shared how he first noticed signs of her dementia years earlier, demonstrating their unwavering support for each other. Prunella’s family announced her peaceful passing at home, surrounded by love and care. Despite her retirement due to dementia, she continued to find joy in watching her iconic work, including Fawlty Towers, until her final days.
Prunella is survived by her sons, stepdaughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family expressed gratitude for the exceptional care provided to Prunella in her last days, ensuring her comfort and happiness.
