Frankie Dettori concluded his illustrious racing career on a high note by triumphing in the first leg of Brazil’s Triple Crown. The renowned jockey had initially planned to retire during Champions Day at Ascot in October 2023 but later decided to prolong his career in the United States.
In a poignant farewell, the 55-year-old announced in November that his racing chapter would close at the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar, followed by a farewell tour in South America culminating at Gavea racecourse in Rio de Janeiro. During his final races, Dettori clinched victories aboard Speak Alpha and Bet You Can in the Brazilian 2,000 Guineas, the Grande Premio Estado do Rio De Janeiro, giving him one last chance to execute his signature flying dismount celebration.
Reflecting on his last race, Dettori expressed his surprise at winning a Group 1 event on his retirement day, describing it as a brilliant moment filled with emotions. He acknowledged his fulfilling career, stating, “I achieved everything I wanted to do. I hope people enjoyed what I did. Of course, my career as a jockey is over, but I remain committed to the racing world.”
Transitioning into a new role, Dettori has embraced the position of global ambassador for Amo Racing, led by Kia Joorabchian, with whom he secured his final British Group 1 victory on King Of Steel at the Champion Stakes. In a heartfelt message to his fans on social media, the jockey expressed gratitude for the sport that has been his life since his teenage years in Italy, emphasizing the unforgettable experiences, remarkable horses, and unwavering support from his family, colleagues, and fans that shaped his extraordinary journey.
As Dettori bids farewell to his remarkable racing career, he thanked everyone who accompanied him on this remarkable adventure and expressed his gratitude to fans for enabling a young boy to live his dream.
