The Mirror’s Missed campaign, launched on Mother’s Day, aims to raise awareness and advocate for improved support for the 170,000 individuals, including 75,000 children, who go missing annually in the UK. In collaboration with the national charity Missing People, the campaign strives to bring at least one missing person home by 2025 by sharing their poignant stories.
Recently, the campaign achieved success when 17-year-old Deante James, who had gone missing from his London home, was found safe a few weeks after his story was featured. His mother, Vandana, expressed gratitude towards The Mirror for their role in reuniting them.
The campaign, now nominated for the 2025 Making a Difference Award, urges the government to develop a new strategy for missing children and adults to ensure comprehensive involvement from law enforcement, healthcare, and social services. With a missing person reported every 90 seconds in the UK, the campaign emphasizes the need for prevention measures and support systems for missing individuals.
Readers are encouraged to vote for The Mirror’s Missed campaign before the deadline to further support the cause and make a positive impact. A live interactive map has also been created by The Mirror to allow users to report sightings of missing individuals confidentially and easily share them on social media, contributing to the collective effort in locating missing persons.
