Andrew reportedly made efforts to resist the removal of all his royal titles and eviction from his mansion.
Yesterday, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles initiated the process of stripping Andrew of his royal titles, including the title of ‘prince’. Additionally, Andrew will be asked to vacate his 30-room Royal Lodge residence, which he previously shared with his former spouse, Sarah Ferguson. Earlier this month, Andrew relinquished the use of his other titles, such as the Duke of York, amid escalating scrutiny over his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein – allegations vehemently refuted by Andrew.
It was disclosed that Andrew did not oppose the King’s decision and received support from Prince William in considering personal matters.
Emily Maitlis of The News Agents revealed that sources close to the royal family indicated Andrew initially resisted relinquishing his titles and home. In a podcast discussion with co-hosts Jon Sopel and Lewis Goodall, Maitlis stated, “Contrary to media reports, I was informed that Andrew strongly resisted this decision by exploring all possible avenues.”
Furthermore, Maitlis mentioned that discussions regarding this significant decision began on Tuesday according to insiders. She noted, “I was informed by close sources to the King and Queen that deliberations commenced on Tuesday evening. Individuals close to the Monarch were consulted that night, and the talks extended into Wednesday morning before final approval.”
Maitlis clarified that Prince William was not the driving force behind this action, contrary to common belief. She highlighted concerns about Andrew’s mental well-being, which Prince William takes seriously, given his and Kate’s involvement in mental health issues.
Reportedly, Andrew will relocate to the private Sandringham Estate in Norfolk from Royal Lodge. Criticism arose over the nominal rent agreement for Andrew at the Windsor mansion, where he paid minimal rent for two decades.
