Topshop is making a comeback on the UK high street today through a new collaboration with John Lewis. After closing its standalone stores in 2021, the popular fashion brand will now be featured in all 32 department stores of John Lewis, along with its online platform. Topman products will also be available in seven of these stores.
This launch will showcase a curated collection of 130 of Topshop’s most sought-after items, including their iconic denim pieces. The decision to reintroduce Topshop was made after successful pop-up appearances in various John Lewis locations. This move is part of John Lewis’s substantial £800 million investment in new brands for the spring/summer season.
Both Topshop and Topman had vanished from UK high streets following the administration of their former owner, Arcadia, in 2021. ASOS, the current owner, had been selling Topshop products online until Topshop’s return to London’s Oxford Street last year in partnership with Liberty department store.
Michelle Wilson, Topshop’s managing director, expressed enthusiasm about enhancing customer accessibility to their favorite Topshop and Topman items. She highlighted the immediacy of being able to see, touch, and purchase the products on the same day, emphasizing that the partnership with John Lewis aligns with their commitment to delivering top-notch service.
The relaunch coincides with London Fashion Week and will be accompanied by a series of promotional events, including a “takeover” of Piccadilly Circus in London and activations across the UK. This strategic move by John Lewis reflects its ongoing efforts to drive growth and transformation under the leadership of Peter Ruis.
Ruis, the managing director of John Lewis, emphasized the company’s investment in fashion to support its current strategic direction. He sees the addition of Topshop as a significant step in establishing John Lewis as a leading fashion authority on the British high street, alongside other exciting new brands.
In addition to the reintroduction of Topshop, John Lewis is introducing 14 new fashion, jewelry, and accessory labels for the upcoming season, further solidifying its position as a key player in the fashion retail landscape.
