The leader of Reform UK, who aims to eliminate the BBC, disclosed that he had a conversation with the US President on Friday and described Trump’s reaction as beyond anger.
The Clacton MP, a strong supporter of Trump, stated that the US leader considered the allegations as the “last straw” and likened the BBC’s actions to Russia’s interference in elections. Farage recounted his discussion with Trump on LBC radio, highlighting the President’s disbelief and outrage towards the BBC.
Trump expressed his deep displeasure with the BBC’s actions, emphasizing the broadcaster’s attempt to influence a presidential election just before the voting. He criticized the BBC for offending a crucial ally like the US, essential for the country’s defense. Farage mentioned that Trump was not surprised by the resignations of BBC’s top officials following the controversy.
Recently, The Telegraph published information indicating that the BBC edited segments of Trump’s speech to imply support for the Capitol Hill riots in January 2021. This editing led to accusations of bias against the BBC. The White House condemned the BBC’s actions as “fake news” and a “propaganda machine.”
Trump celebrated the resignation of BBC director general Tim Davie, thanking The Telegraph for exposing the alleged manipulation of his speech. Meanwhile, Deborah Turness defended the BBC, asserting that the corporation is not institutionally biased and its journalists are not corrupt. She emphasized BBC News as a trusted source of information globally.
