Must read

The IOC has responded to the booing of US vice-president JD Vance at the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony, emphasizing “fair play” and praising its collaboration with the American administration.

Vance, leading the US delegation, faced boos from the crowd as the US team entered the San Siro stadium in Italy.

During a press conference, IOC spokesperson Mark Adams expressed satisfaction with the US administration’s engagement with the Games and the positive reception of the US team. Adams stressed the importance of fair play in sporting events and highlighted the significance of a strong relationship with the administration.

Milano-Cortina 2026 CEO Andrea Varnier avoided commenting on Italian perceptions of the US administration, focusing instead on the enthusiastic reception of the US team during the ceremony.

The IOC also called for respectful behavior from spectators, addressing incidents of booing directed at Israeli athletes. Adams emphasized the need for sportsmanship and support for all athletes, regardless of their background or nationality.

Vance arrived in Milan ahead of the Games, engaging with American athletes and officials, including IOC president Kirsty Coventry. Adams revealed that the discussions between Vance and Coventry were productive and well-received.

The Winter Olympic Games in Milano Cortina 2026 will run from February 6-22, offering over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video. Fans can access comprehensive Olympic coverage through the £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment subscription.
