Must read

The Ottawa Rapid have revealed that former Canadian national team defender Carmelina Moscato will take over as head coach from the upcoming season onwards. The current head coach, Katrine Pedersen, made the announcement of her departure from the Northern Super League leaders at the end of the ongoing season last month.

Moscato, a distinguished member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, boasts an impressive playing career that includes participation in three Women’s World Cups and a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. She brings coaching experience from Denmark, Mexico, and most recently, Saudi Arabia.

The Rapid have secured Moscato on a two-season contract, with her responsibilities beginning this year as she plans for the team’s future, including recruitment for the 2027 season. Thomas Gilbert, the team CEO, praised Moscato’s leadership qualities, coaching expertise, and deep knowledge of Canadian soccer in a recent press release.

Expressing her enthusiasm, Moscato stated, “The Rapid have made significant strides in a short period of time. I am eager to continue this progress and create an environment where players can excel, grow, and compete at the highest level.”

Currently leading the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, Ottawa has maintained a strong position since their last defeat in late May. The Rapid’s upcoming match is scheduled in Calgary at 4 p.m. this Saturday, with live coverage available on CBC Gem.
