SIU Investigates Pickering Police Car Collision

The province’s police oversight body is looking into a collision involving a police car and a civilian vehicle in Pickering, Ontario, on Friday. According to a spokesperson for the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the incident occurred when a Durham Regional Police Service officer was en route to an emergency call on Kingston Road around 7:30 p.m.

The collision took place at the intersection of Kingston Road and Brock Road, resulting in injuries to the occupants of the civilian vehicle. One of the passengers, a child, sustained a serious injury and was taken to the hospital. Durham police confirmed that their officers were responding to a call when the accident occurred, prompting the involvement of the SIU.

Following the collision, Kingston Road was shut down at Brock Road in both directions, and southbound traffic on Brock Road from Finch Avenue was also affected for the investigation. However, by 2 a.m. on Saturday, the roadways had reopened, as per an update provided by Durham police.

The investigation into the Pickering crash involving the police cruiser and civilian vehicle is ongoing.
