John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Tory stated his excitement to collaborate with the board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to contribute to shaping the festival’s future.

Tory’s tenure officially commences on October 1, as confirmed in a recent news release. The upcoming festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, expressing his enduring pride in the role he played in the festival’s journey.

In addition to Tory’s appointment, TIFF announced the addition of three new members to its board of directors — Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Simultaneously, Asha Daniere is stepping down from the board after nine years of service. TIFF conveyed its heartfelt gratitude to Daniere for her dedication and contributions to the organization over the years.
