Anthony Joshua has returned to England following a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of two individuals. The British heavyweight boxer arrived at London Stansted Airport on Friday evening and was then transported to his residence for further recovery, according to reports from the Sun.
The funeral for Joshua’s friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, is scheduled to take place at a mosque in London. Close family and friends have been invited to participate in a ‘janaza prayer service’ to honor the departed friends.
There is uncertainty surrounding Joshua’s attendance at the funeral, as concerns have been raised about the potential media attention and disruption his presence may cause.
Reports indicate that Joshua narrowly escaped the accident by switching seats just before the journey that resulted in the tragic deaths of his friends. The driver of the car, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Kayode’s legal representative stated that the incident was an accident and that the brakes allegedly failed.
Kayode, aged 46, was driving Joshua and his friends in a black Lexus Jeep when the collision occurred with a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. After being discharged from a Lagos hospital, Kayode was transferred to Abeokuta for further proceedings related to the case.
Joshua, after being released from the hospital, paid his respects to Ghami and Ayodele at a funeral home before their bodies were repatriated to the United Kingdom for burial.
The legal proceedings for Kayode have been adjourned until January 20, and he has provided an official statement detailing the events leading up to the accident. Joshua is now focusing on his recovery and mourning the loss of his friends.
