A well-known hotel and dining establishment has abruptly shut its doors after nearly five decades, leaving its patrons in dismay.
Situated adjacent to the canal on St Michael’s Road, Guys Thatched Hamlet near Bilsborrow in Lancashire has officially ceased operations. The closure has resulted in the dismissal of all employees.
A closure notice has been affixed to the hotel’s entrance, signaling the end of its 46-year run. The expansive site spanned nearly 14 acres and encompassed various amenities such as a pub, eatery, sports pavilion, event spaces, cricket field, bowling green, and three parking lots.
According to a statement cited by the Lancashire Post, the closure announcement read: “After 46 years in business, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet has now shut its doors. This decision, while difficult, was made after careful consideration. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our loyal customers, staff, and suppliers for their unwavering support over the years.”
Heartbroken customers have taken to social media to express their sorrow over the closure. Memories shared include engagements and special moments celebrated at the venue, underscoring its significance to many.
Previously owned by the Wilkinson family since 1980, the business was listed for sale last year, with an approximate annual turnover of £4.2 million. The property’s prime location near popular tourist destinations like the Lake District and Fylde Coast made it an attractive investment opportunity.
Having been under the same ownership for over four decades, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet was known for its extensive refurbishments and enhancements, solidifying its reputation as a prominent establishment in the North West of England. The venue’s year-round appeal and bustling food and beverage services made it a sought-after destination, especially during peak seasons.
For those who were fond of the venue, the hope remains that a new owner will preserve its legacy and keep its essence alive.
