Surrey County Council is offering free supermarket vouchers valued at £300 to numerous households as part of its support for the cost of living. This initiative falls under the Household Support Fund, which provides financial assistance to vulnerable families through local authorities.
Residents of Surrey County Council who are facing challenges in affording food and essential items can apply for the vouchers via the Everyday Essentials E-Voucher scheme. These vouchers are redeemable at various supermarkets such as Aldi, Asda, Farmfoods, Iceland, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Waitrose.
To be eligible for this scheme, applicants must be over 18 years old, reside in Surrey, maintain household savings of £2,000 or less over a 90-day period, and have an annual household income below £27,007.50 before taxes and deductions.
Applicants are required to provide details of their income and any benefits received by their household. Monthly applications for the vouchers are accepted, with the upcoming round opening on February 3. If the application window is missed, individuals can reapply from March 2.
For those outside of Surrey seeking assistance, it is advisable to contact their local council to inquire about available support. Notably, Nottingham City Council is distributing £100 vouchers to individuals with low incomes or receiving benefits. The vouchers are being sent out gradually and may take until February 28, 2026, to reach recipients.
Wakefield Council is also providing food vouchers to low-income households receiving council tax support. Pensioners receiving Council Tax Support were granted a £70 voucher in November, with additional vouchers allocated to other eligible households.
Furthermore, households receiving Council Tax Support will receive a £50 or £70 voucher, depending on the time frame, and Blackpool Council is offering energy assistance ranging from £200 to £300 based on household size.
To qualify for these supports, individuals must demonstrate financial hardship and challenges in bill payments, along with submitting recent bank statements for all household members.
