“Former Tottenham Hotspur Owner Joe Lewis Granted Pardon by Trump”

Must read

Former owner of Tottenham Hotspur, Joe Lewis, is poised to be pardoned by President Donald Trump in the United States. Lewis, who transferred ownership of the club to the Lewis Family Trust in 2022, was fined £4 million for insider trading but is not expected to return to the club.

In 2024, Lewis avoided imprisonment following a plea for leniency based on his health and early admission of guilt. President Trump has granted several pardons since taking office, with Lewis set to be among the latest beneficiaries, as reported by The Telegraph.

A presidential pardon in the US absolves a federal crime, halting further penalties and reinstating civil rights. Although the offense could carry a two-year prison sentence according to federal standards, Lewis will not serve time behind bars.

The official announcement of Lewis’ pardon is scheduled for today by the White House. The British billionaire expressed relief, stating, “I am pleased to put this chapter behind me and look forward to retirement, watching our family businesses thrive on our commitment to quality and excellence.”

The Lewis family assumed full control of Tottenham this year following the exit of Daniel Levy. The club will continue operating under the Lewis name, while the former owner remains retired.

The current Tottenham hierarchy includes Joe’s daughter Vivienne, son Charles, and Vivienne’s husband Nick Beucher. Eric Hinson recently joined as a non-executive director, working alongside non-executive chairman Peter Charrington and chief executive Vinai Venkatesham.

Levy stepped down as chairman in September after nearly 25 years, leading to a shift towards a more traditional club structure. In his departing statement, Levy expressed pride in the club’s achievements and thanked fans for their support throughout his tenure.
