The 2026 induction ceremony for the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame took place on Thursday, welcoming notable figures such as former NBA player Jamaal Magloire, ex-Carleton Ravens men’s head coach Dave Smart, and Olympic flag-bearer Miranda Ayim.
Jamaal Magloire, who enjoyed a 12-season career in the NBA, made history as the first Canadian to play for the Toronto Raptors in 2011. He achieved all-star status in 2004 while with the New Orleans Hornets. Magloire later transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant coach for the Raptors during their championship-winning 2018-19 season. Currently, he holds the position of vice-president with the Scarborough Shooting Stars in the Canadian Elite Basketball League.
Dave Smart’s legacy lies in his remarkable tenure as the head coach of Carleton University’s men’s basketball program, leading the Ravens to an impressive 13 U Sports championships.
Miranda Ayim, a prominent figure in Canadian basketball, captained the senior women’s national team and had the honor of being the co-flag-bearer for Canada alongside rugby sevens player Nathan Hirayama at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
The class of 2026, unveiled on July 2, also includes esteemed individuals such as players Michael Meeks, Anna Stammberger, Dan Meagher, and Teresa Kleindienst, coaches Peter (Doc) Ryan, official Janice Deakin, and builder Dr. Andrew Pipe. The 10-member class will be formally inducted at a ceremony in St. Stephen, N.B.
