The dynamic Canadian beach volleyball pair consisting of Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson clinched the bronze medal at the Montreal Elite16 event held in their home country. This achievement came after they triumphed over Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann in a thrilling match that ended with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16, securing their place on the podium.
Wilkerson showcased an impressive performance with 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a crucial serve point, while Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points to their victory. The match had a brief interruption due to a weather delay but resumed to a thrilling finish.
Earlier in the day, the Canadian duo faced a setback in the semifinals, losing to Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta in a closely contested match with scores of 21-19, 20-22, and 15-7. Despite this loss, they bounced back to compete for the bronze medal against Germany’s Müller and Tillmann.
Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson have had previous successes in Montreal, winning titles in 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver medal in Paris in between. Their bronze medal win at the Elite16 event adds another achievement to their impressive record.
In the men’s competition, Canada’s Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett staged a remarkable comeback to claim the bronze medal by defeating Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen. After dropping the opening set, the Canadian pair rallied to win the next two sets, securing their first podium finish together on home turf.
Schachter and Pickett had earlier caused an upset by beating the top-ranked team to reach the semifinals but fell short against Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein in a hard-fought match. Despite this loss, their bronze medal victory was a testament to their resilience and skill on the court.
