“Emma Raducanu Embraces Autonomy in Coaching Approach”

Must read

Emma Raducanu has expressed that she is not in a hurry to secure a new permanent coach following her recent split with coach Francisco Roig. The 2021 US Open champion decided to part ways with Roig due to differing opinions on her playing style, making him the ninth coach she has let go during her career. Currently, Raducanu is working with hitting partner Alexis Canter and is content with the current coaching arrangement as she prepares for the Indian Wells tournament in California.

Despite having worked with several coaches in the past, including Nigel Sears, Andrew Richardson, and Roig, Raducanu is now focusing on reconnecting with her natural playing instincts. She emphasized the importance of regaining her authentic style of play, expressing a reluctance to rush into a new coaching relationship that might not align with her vision. While she values the input of those around her, Raducanu prefers a coaching dynamic that allows her the freedom to stay true to her instincts and playstyle.

Having spoken highly of her experience working with Mark Petchey, Raducanu highlighted his significant impact on her game both on and off the court. She praised Petchey’s guidance and support, citing memorable moments of reflection and growth during their time together. As she navigates her career, Raducanu remains open to exploring various coaching options while valuing the autonomy to stay true to her unique playing style.
