A man facing charges for the murder of a British woman he met on a fetish website was reported to have purchased four unsettling items from Walmart before picking her up from the airport. Dwain Hall, aged 53, allegedly connected with Sonia Exelby, 32, from Portsmouth, through messages discussing her arrival in Florida for possible torture and death. Exelby’s body was discovered in a shallow grave in Marion County a week after her arrival in the state on October 10.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Exelby had been fatally stabbed four times with a knife. Hall has been accused of kidnapping and first-degree murder, but he has denied the allegations against him. An affidavit stated that Hall initially denied knowledge of Sonia, but later admitted to picking her up and driving her to an Airbnb. Records, including license plate readers, indicated his presence at Gainesville airport around the time of Sonia’s arrival.
Bank statements and surveillance footage allegedly showed Hall buying paracord, gun cleaner, rope, and Lume spray from Walmart, followed by a shovel. According to arrest documents, Sonia’s computer contained evidence suggesting she was suicidal and heading to the US for potential abuse, torture, and murder. During a police interview, Hall reportedly confessed to discussing bondage, suicide, and Sonia’s wish to be killed.
Hall was arrested on October 17 after attempting to use Sonia’s credit cards. When questioned, he claimed to be the last person to have seen Sonia alive and expressed willingness to assist her. The document also mentioned Hall’s remarks about taking Sonia to Alligator Alley so she could encounter wildlife to end her life. He did not disclose details about Sonia’s fate and remained vague when asked directly about her death.
Hall is scheduled to appear in court next on December 23. For emotional support, individuals can contact the Samaritans helpline at 116 123, email jo@samaritans.org, visit a branch in person, or access their website.
