An 11-year-old boy fell victim to sexual assault by a school employee who bombarded him with over 5,000 disturbing text messages and enticed him with gifts.
The perpetrator, Alyson Cranick, 44, lured the young boy into meeting her repeatedly over a span of months. Despite being a married mother of two, she met with the child on 11 occasions, driving him to various locations where she engaged in sexually explicit acts with him inside her car, as reported by officials. Cranick even compelled the child to sneak out of his home after midnight multiple times in 2022. During their encounters, she made the boy consume caffeinated beverages to prevent him from falling asleep and gifted him items like AirPods and a pellet gun.
The disturbing exploitation began when Cranick initiated contact with the boy via text and Snapchat. Subsequently, she persuaded the child to switch their conversations to Discord after discovering that a family member monitored his social media interactions and messages.
According to the US Attorney’s Office District of Connecticut, the 44-year-old bombarded the boy with over 4,700 messages on Discord between July and October 2022.
In a shocking revelation, Cranick crafted a bracelet for the child bearing the inscription “BFFLWB,” interpreting to “Best Friends for Life With Benefits,” as detailed in an arrest warrant. Eventually, the child ceased communication with Cranick after she allegedly emotionally manipulated him into spending more time with her, as per law enforcement.
The sex offender was apprehended on November 14, 2023, on charges related to the incident and has been in custody since November 28 of the same year. Cranick faced federal charges in July 2024 and is scheduled for sentencing on February 12, 2026, with a potential minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, extending to a possible life imprisonment.
Cranick was terminated from her position as an administrative assistant at E.O. Smith High School in Mansfield, Connecticut, in September 2023 following the allegations.
The investigation into the former school employee’s misconduct was conducted by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force and the Connecticut State Police’s Eastern District Major Crime Unit.
This distressing case emerges in the wake of another incident involving a teacher who allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student and subsequently stalked him after their breakup.
Teresa Whalin, 28, stands accused of having a sexual affair and exchanging explicit photos with the teenager starting in April 2023. The student reportedly experienced mental health challenges following the alleged relationship.
According to an affidavit, the student described the connection as “dating,” with both parties exchanging messages on Snapchat, dining together, and spending time in the teacher’s classroom.
The student ceased communication with the teacher, leading to alleged instances of stalking by the teacher who was reportedly struggling to cope with the end of the relationship, as indicated by law enforcement.
