Must read

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper visited courageous children who were evacuated from Gaza for urgent medical treatment.

One of the children, Mohammed, aged 8, lost his leg in an explosion near his home in Khan Younis. After initial treatment in Gaza, he was transferred to Amman, Jordan, where he received a prosthetic leg. Despite the challenges, Mohammed has successfully learned to walk, run, and climb stairs on his new limb. Ms. Cooper praised his bravery and encouraged his dream of becoming a policeman like his father.

Additionally, the Foreign Secretary met with sisters Sarraa, 17, and Sara, 15, who suffered severe injuries during a bombing while they were asleep. The sisters endured a harrowing ordeal before being rescued and receiving medical care in Jordan. Sarraa underwent surgeries for her injuries, including plastic surgery on her forehead and eye surgery to remove shrapnel, while Sara, who was initially paralyzed, has regained some upper body mobility and now uses a wheelchair.

Dr. Osama Hamed, a surgeon who has visited Gaza multiple times, described the dire healthcare situation in the region, emphasizing the lack of resources and critical medical supplies. He highlighted the challenges faced by healthcare providers and the urgent need for support.

Ms. Cooper emphasized the UK’s commitment to rebuilding Gaza’s healthcare system and providing assistance to those in need. Efforts are underway to collaborate with other countries to enhance healthcare services in Gaza and continue supporting medical evacuations for further treatment.
