McDonald’s Fans Fume as Price of Hash Brown Nears £2

Must read

McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing frustration following a social media post that reveals the price of a single hash brown nearing £2 in select McDonald’s restaurants.

The viral post features an image of a McDonald’s menu board displaying a £1.99 price tag for a hash brown at a specific location visited by the individual.

The post has garnered over 459,000 views, accompanied by a comment stating, “£2 for a lone hash brown. We are calling it quits.”

Reactions poured in, with one person noting the escalating prices, stating, “It’s getting out of hand; it used to be a budget-friendly choice.” Another individual remarked, “For that price, you might as well opt for the sausage sandwich.” A third simply expressed, “Unbelievable.”

One commenter mentioned the hash brown’s appeal but criticized the £2 price, while another reminisced about the days when they were priced at 59p.

A McDonald’s representative responded, stating, “Many of our restaurants are independently owned and operated, allowing them to determine pricing. However, they share our dedication to delivering quality service and value to customers.”

This development follows McDonald’s announcement of an upcoming adjustment to the points required for free items through MyMcDonald’s Rewards. Currently, items like a Big Mac or Chicken Nuggets require 5,500 points, but starting March 17, customers will need 6,500 points for these offerings. Customers earn 100 points for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.

Furthermore, the points needed for items such as coffee or fries will rise from 1,500 to 2,000 points. The threshold for products like McFlurry or Apple Pie will increase from 2,500 to 3,500 points, and items like a Double Cheeseburger or McChicken sandwich will now require 5,000 points, up from 4,000 points.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s cited the loyalty scheme adjustments as a response to increasing food and supply costs, emphasizing the introduction of popular items like Chicken Selects and new Sausage Sandwich options to provide customers with a wider selection.
