Canada’s national police force announced on Monday the apprehension of a 51-year-old individual for allegedly issuing death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. Marc-André Porlier, a resident of Montreal, faces charges of making threats to cause harm or death, according to an RCMP press release. The threats in question were conveyed via email to various unspecified recipients, including a senator, as disclosed by law enforcement sources.
In addition to the threats against the Prime Minister, the accused also purportedly made menacing remarks towards “all Canadian police officers,” as detailed in the official charge document. Authorities confirmed that Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and vandalism related to a fire at a church in Toronto back in 2017 and was serving a probationary period for those offenses.
Porlier made a court appearance on Saturday, as highlighted in the press release. However, it is emphasized that the charges against him have not yet been substantiated in a court of law.
