The RCMP has labeled the death of a four-year-old girl and the severe injuries of two young children at a residence in southern Manitoba as suspicious. According to a news release by the RCMP on Tuesday, officers from the Manitoba First Nations Police Service responded to a call at a home in Long Plain First Nation after emergency services reported a young child in distress with injuries at around 8 a.m. on Sunday.
Tragically, the four-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other children in the home, aged one and two, were transported to the hospital. One child was initially in critical condition while the other was stable, but both are now in stable condition.
Due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the four-year-old and the injuries sustained by the other two children, the RCMP has taken control of the investigation. Supt. Rob Lasson, who oversees Manitoba RCMP major crime services, expressed deep concern over the incident, describing it as “extremely troubling.” He mentioned that the community will be seeking answers regarding the events that transpired in the household.
Supt. Lasson assured residents of Long Plain that the RCMP is collaborating closely with the MFNPS and community leaders as they work to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident.
