Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, announced on Friday a global recall of more than 1.5 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks due to a seat belt problem. The recall affects Ram 1500 vehicles from 2019 to 2026 that may have a second-row center or driver side seat belt buckle anchor that was not correctly attached to the vehicle’s body structure. This issue could compromise the second-row seat belt system’s effectiveness, potentially increasing the risk of injury to passengers. While Stellantis is aware of one injury possibly linked to the recall, there have been no reported fatalities associated with this problem.
The recall involves 1.27 million vehicles in the United States, 156,000 in Canada, 15,000 in Mexico, and approximately 75,000 in other regions outside of North America. Stellantis will inform affected vehicle owners to arrange for an inspection with dealers. During the inspection, dealers will assess the second-row center and driver seat belt buckle anchor and ensure proper attachment to the vehicle’s body if necessary.
