Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to travel to Canada next week, as per sources familiar with the matter cited by Radio-Canada. The Globe and Mail initially reported the visit, which has now been verified by two separate sources. It is anticipated that Zelenskyy’s visit to Canada may encompass two destinations.
Zelenskyy’s previous trip to Canada occurred in December, during which he held discussions with Prime Minister Mark Carney in Halifax before proceeding to the United States for talks with President Donald Trump regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict resolution. The Prime Minister’s Office has chosen not to provide any comments on the upcoming visit.
The news of Zelenskyy’s visit coincides with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statement that several nations, including the U.S. and China, are prepared to assist in achieving a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. Putin emphasized that the ultimate resolution of the conflict lies with the involved countries, namely Russia and Ukraine.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed optimism about a renewed phase of political and diplomatic engagement worldwide to facilitate peace efforts, without providing further details. Amid Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II, both sides rarely express positivity about peace prospects, with the most recent U.S.-mediated talks taking place in February.
